Understand people

Learn to understand people,
especially your employees

One of the most important things that small business team leaders everywhere need to be able to do is to understand people. Think about it... how can you possibly expect to lead a vigorous and productive team of people if you don’t know who they are and what they are about?

Employees who make up the team are usually ordinary folk who want to come to work and be part of the team. The intentions of your team members are the same as for employees of other small businesses.

We live in a world of information overload where not all of the information is useful to generating mature people who are helpful towards each other.

In some ways, the undertaking of team building will conflict with many of the messages that people are faced with each day. Negative messages telling people that success is based upon what you look like and how much money you have are everywhere and continually thrust upon people.

This is all the more reason to create a work place where solid and stable values like honesty and integrity are the social fabric of your business and sensible ways of behaving are expected and are the only way of doing business.
