Team Members
Helping your team members
Actively listen to your team members as they speak to you. Let them tell ‘their story’ before you give your comment or judgement or decision. Attentive listening will reveal a lot about the person speaking to you.
Ask questions so that you give the other person an opportunity to put ‘their case’ to you. Find out what they think the action in response to the situation should be.
As humans we are influenced by our experiences in life and fear of repeating painful events is often a dominant driver in the behavior of people.
Try to recognize fear based thinking. For example, a person may hold a very firm view on a particular issue which may seem to you to be extreme or out of context for the circumstances. When you come across fear based thinking, you can achieve very positive responses from your workers by approaching problems and issues in such a way as to acknowledge their point of view.
Then provide a solution, sometimes a compromise position, to enable your business to move forward and your employees to feel included in the process and to gain peace of mind.
Help your team members to help themselves.
